A % will be placed next to the rule if one has been modified or added in comparison to last month. 1. This report will uphold to CURRENT Game Rip rules. Most release that are purposely breaks these rules will have -2.0 points deducted. If it's decide to make an exception about a certain release, it will be a case-by-case decision. 2. Trainers and Cheat Codes will receive +0.5 points. A trainer that is an exact duplicate with the same functions of another group's trainer will receive 0.0 points. Non-working trainers will receive 0.0 points. 3. A trainer, patch or addon mispackaged will receive -0.5 points. A game that is mispackaged or has CRC errors will receive -1.0 points. 4. Update patches will receive +1.0 points. Beta patches will receive 0.0 points while non-working patches will receive -1.0 points. Dupes of patches will receive -0.5 points. 5. A game must work to receive all of the points of the game. -1.0 points will be deducted if a game requires a major fix. If one group fixes another group release to make the game functional at the beginning, that group that fixed the release will be transferred the release points and the original release group will receive -2.0 points for the game. If a game requires a minor fix (Uncommon .DLL file, etc.), a group will be deducted -0.5 points. A game infected with a virus will be deducted -1.0. 6. Trainers, patches and add-ons for an over-the-limit or ISO release will receive 0.0 points. Any group who releases an add-on that didn't originally release the rip version will get 0.0 points. 7. Add-ons for a game: a maximum of 2 are allowed for one game and will receive +0.5 points per add-on. These add-ons must be 100% completely functional with the original release and be at or under 25 disks or the add-on will receive -0.5 points. 8. If an official add-on is released as a standalone, it will be treated as a full release. Official add-ons for a game that are not standalone will receive half the points of a full release. Unauthorized or unofficial add-ons will receive 0.0 points. 9. If two groups put out the same game at the same time, the group with the first working release released to the FTP sites will receive the full points and the losing group will receive 0.0 points. A dupe from a release from several weeks or several months ago will receive -2.0 points. A proper rip is still considered a dupe and will receive 0.0 points since it's not the first working release 10. If a game is proven to be a beta, and the final is put out that month, the group who releases the final will receive the release points, and the group releasing the beta will be deducted -2.0 points. If a final is put out the next month or several months down the road, the group that released the beta will receive -3.0. The points from the group that released the original beta will have its points deducted from the yearly total. Beta to final patches from a group will receive up to +2.0 points, and the original group releasing the beta will be hit with -2.0 (less than a month old beta) or -3.0 (over a month old beta) points for the infraction plus losing its original points. 11. Games intended for kids or edutainment will receive -2.0 points. 12. Any rule found to be broken after the monthly charts have been released will still have it's points removed from the yearly total in the next months charts. The original points will be removed along with a certain amount of points removed depending on the infraction. Scoring System: To attempt to not be too controversial, a different rating system has been put into place. The new rating scale will be: +6.0 points for an awaited title. +5.0 points for a great title. +4.0 points for a regular title. +3.0 points for a title that stinks. Judgement & scoring of each title will be at this report's own discretion. If you don't like this system, write your own damn monthly charts. . . _:___________________ ____ ________________________ _________: ___\______ _____ \/ /___/_____ ____ __/___/_____ \___ \__ / _/ _/ _/ / / / _/ / / /\___ \ _/ /__/ \/ \ \ \____ / / \____/ / / / / \____/_/ \____/\ \____// \________/\_____// \________/\________/\____// | | FRX\____/ | | [ THIS MONTHS RELEASES ] | -----+------------------------------------------------------------------+----- ______ /| ___ /\______ /\______ / \/ | / _ \ / _____/ _____> / |_ / |/ | \\____ \ \____ \ < | < / | / | \/ | \ \ _____\_<____|___\_____ /\_____ / +=\/======================\/=======\/==+ "CLASS SLOGANBLAH SPRUCH WIE AUCH IMMER" -----------------------------------------------------------+----+------------- Release Name & Company |Size| Date = Total -----------------------------------------------------------+----+------------- Trophy Bass 3D v1.2 Update Cracked (c) Sierra | 1 | 03/01 = +1.0 Lucky Luke On The Daltons Trail (c) Infogrames | 14 | 03/01 = +4.0 Sammy Sosa Softball Slam (c) 3DO | 48 | 03/01 = +4.0 Puzzle Trouble (c) Soft Enterprise | 3 | 03/03 = +3.0 Croc 2 +2 Trainer | 1 | 03/06 = +0.5 Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun: Firestorm Money Trainer | 1 | 03/06 = +0.5 Tomb Raider 3: The Lost Artifact (c) Eidos | 18 | 03/08 = +5.0 Tomb Raider 3: The Lost Artifact +3 Trainer | 1 | 03/09 = +0.5 Freespace 2: Sci-Fi Sim of the Year Ed. Razor | +11.0 | +--------+ Quick overview of the month: With the merger of Paradigm & Origin into Myth, the rip scene has really become a dueling of two groups, Class vs Myth. Then, there is the other guys. For most of the month, Class & Myth did fight with the gloves off, attacking whenever possible. While most of the rips came from the two powerhouses, it should be an interesting battle, and for sure make the scene an interesting place. We also saw the raise of the disk limit to 65 disks, and this was immediately taken advantage by all groups. Some new rules have been put in place that will supposedly make the scene a more competetive place. Lastly, to the astonishment of the scene, Razor actually released a couple games. . . ___ _________ ____ _____________________ ________ ______________ :___ _\ /_\____ \/ /_ \____ ____ \ \/ /\ /_\___ _ /_/ \ / / / / __/_/ _/ / _/ _/ / / _/ / / / / _/ / / / / \____/ \ \ / / / \____/ / \____/\___/ _________/\___// \___/\ \_____/\___/\____// \__/\_/\__/ | FRX\___/ \____/ | | [ INTERVIEW(S) OF THE MONTH ] | -----+------------------------------------------------------------------+----- : This month SJ was picked to be interviewed for this month's issue of TPGR. NOTE: This interview was conducted on the first week of March. Hi there SJ, this is the gimp from TPGR, doing the monthly interview. The first question is like the standard first question in 90% of all interviews, and one that's always asked to let people know who the fuck you are, because not everyone is elite and knows you, or even heard of you. So please list your current status, and how you got to that point. Well, I started 3 1/2 years ago, when my friend brought me to explosion, it's a russian based group back when we were couriering, and lately releasing...after that since it was mostly russians that didn't care if I was in more groups (curry based) so I joined intensity which was founded by tygrus, after few weeks I made council and when tygrus left scene for few months, I figured it was time to move on to better things. I asked for trial in RSS and got in there, then I joined siege, moved on to ambition as siteop, then to dms, and finally devotion on curry side, utils I got very lucky and joined siege and was even more lucky to stay there until the end class was my 1st game group which I joined cause of a challenge and that siege/class had some of same leaders, and I felt conformable then I got into iso, and co founded tfl, now am member or eviliso and dvniso after siege died I was in pwa, and now at scum That's a heavy load.. coord. or leader of 4 groups, and members in 2 other.. how do you handle it? Well I always say that am not really a coord/leader, just a person who helps around groups am with, one person don't make a group, people make it, I maybe thought by other as that, but I don't see myself as one, dedication is a important part of this, sometimes I stay late for 2-3 more hours to make sure a title gets tested, or packed or supplied, then go sleep also other sacrifices like not go and have a drink 4 times a week but doit 3 times :) Being a good coord. is making sure the people supply something, or clean out drops, or ask it testers tested. I take pride at what I do, if I fuck up, I don't just say oh fuck it, but I get pissed and try to correct it and if you don't have any help, no one can do it himself :) So what is your heart into, since you dabble in so many groups? I love utils, I think its much more fun in them since there are so many different fields and lately I wanted to get a feeling in games and see how that is, so I joined class about a year ago, and its little different, but fun as well. Overall I am in utils I would think So then what do you do for Class? Basically I help with everything except maybe cracking, whether it comes to ripping, or testing, or packing or releasing, or even kick someone's ass who's idle, I do it all, since I believe that unless are a cracker, you can do most jobs if you take your time and learn it For a while, weren't you the spokesman for Class, like the representative, the ambassador? Because no one really knew who was in Class, they all seemed to of asked you about Class. Well we try to keep pretty low profile about our members, so unless you are really into games you wouldn't know who is where, since I been doing utils people know me and basically thought I do speak for class, so they bug me, which is actually wrong since class is a group of people who decide about things, not a one person group So what are the plus & cons of utils & games in your opinion? like how they help me or? Well why is one more enjoyable than the other? And what is the downside of each scene. Ah, well utils is more enjoyable since you actually achieve main goal of what people do this for, which is EDUCATE people (such as students) and keep software reasonably free Games on the other hand, probably won't achieve the educate people goal, but for me its a lot of rush, in utils I might get same rush 6-8 times a year of a major title But games its literally every 2-3 games, since you always have competition, so you got to race against them, which is always good when you win, sometimes it sucks if you get your ass kicked, but then you get more motivated to get back at them next time I would say games more enjoyable, but lot of people can't take games, cause of no patience or skills, or other reasons Does that rush becomes an addiction? Not necessarily, it does because it's more an addiction to the process itself, basically same as in utils, but it sure good especially if you're on a winning end I suppose if someone only doing games, it might become since all new goals arise look our goal was to be good, which I think we proved, now this myth group formed so new goals have arisen What about this high paranoia that has arisen, a while back everyone was relaxed, now suddenly over last year everyone is on a severe caffeine rush, yet you seem to buckle against the trend and stay in the limelight. Well I've been around for last 3-4 years and I figured what I have done, hiding wouldn't really help...just take precautions like I format weekly, don't log, no warez at home, so not really any prove...I can really see why people scared but then you have dedication factor which they kind of kill if they do it Do you like being associated with Class? Well I don't want any credit, cause if I did I would probably stick my name in every nfo for every title I associated with, it's not really about the credit for me, I realize that someone will be known anyway and since I am in 'both' scenes it'd be just easier for me I guess and not have someone else from the group to stand out, of course if someone wants, they can since like I said I don't really care for credit, cause unless you get chiqs with that its worthless imo :] Isn't it odd that you're associated with Deviance, who allies with Myth (previously OGN), while CLS allies with FLT. Doesn't the issue of loyalty get in the way at times? Can't it also create problems? Well in theory it shouldn't, I value my INTEGRITY very highly, probably as high as loyalty, so I don't think it will create any problems for me, of course if people in one or both groups don't trust me or think I am a spy for other group, then it's their problem really not mine :) Is loyalty now dead? Mostly for people yes, most people jump groups which are hot, then once they take time off move to other groups, or move for different reasons whether its for leech or a hot shell of course some people are loyal but most of them been in scene longer than me so they can be said as oldschool So the definition of the word "oldschool" is another overused word? What is your definition of that word? I think so if people refer to THEMSELVES as that then of course they ain't :), oldschool is basically someone who has been around 4+ years and he has earned respect on other members of the group as well as opponent groups for various skills that he possesses, being oldschool I think not really the time thing, but what you have done for the scene and your groups during that time being loyal and have integrity are 2 big points of being oldschool imo What about the laziness of the scene, it seems fresh talent is damn hard to find.. about as hard to find as a virgin in a bordello. It seems a certain amount of apathy is in the air. Mostly because scene became so wide open, any lamer can get in, so it's very hard to filter when I joined, it took me at least a year to get to a decent group, which I was siteop/coord/etc where I could say I 'polished' my skills most people who in scene these days are for something, not to do something when I mean for something I mean like to get leeches and once they get them they idle when I came and before me I think people joined to help others as well as just have fun To put it metaphoric, maybe too many people are coming with good poker faces, and too many leaders are playing their bluffs? Yep, that's a pretty good metaphor but, see any good leader should have good people skills so usually it don't take them a while to see beneath the surface :) So what qualifies one to be a good leader? Do you consider yourself as a poster child to being a good leader? I don't consider myself to be a good leader cause it's not something one can think of yourself I imo, if others think of you that way then it very nice to be thought about that way to be a good leader if to be able to see above personal gain, but for the better of the group personal problems should not be in the line of group problems you have to be a good coordinator, meaning have people like you at the same time know when you are serious also make sure group is having fun, and if anyone have problems to try to solve them asap, with best way for that person as well for the group basically if someone runs a group for personal gain, group will not go anywhere but hell ;) Is this partially why Class has sustained its dominance? Do you at all give yourself, or want to give yourself any credit for Class's success over the last year? No, I don't cause I was not a one man team, we have a core people who I'm not gonna name who since it's groups business those people dedicated a lot of time for last year and it had shown with a lot of titles and yet no fights/egos etc I can't give myself credit cause I don't believe if giving yourself credits, but if other do give me some of it, it's always nice to hear of course I saw jokingly that this new merge of OGN & PDM to form MYTH is like the AOL & Time Warner merger. Is the rip scene groups allying to combat the 800 lb Gorilla called CLS, or is the rip scene slowly slipping into a coma? Well eventually rip scene will die of course maybe not utils but games sure, since stuff will be bigger and bigger but, see if you know ogn/pdm people hated each other for long time so right now I guess its all just peachy, but wait until there be dry season we can probably hear ego's pop from way over here I have my doubts about this working out actually but only thing which will kill them is time how much they can produce quality and other things define a good group and only time will tell Explain what makes a good group. Is CLS a good model or something? Why is in other groups in other scene, they just wither away, or squabble themselves to death. There are few main factors which make a good group: 1) crackers of course, good connections+skills+dedication (lots of lazy crackers come and go, but dedicated stay and become legends) 2) suppliers, not everyone can become a GOOD supplier, anyone can be one, but to be good is to be consistent and to find a way to get other games which not just possible to get from a store near you 3) core people, like people who can test/rip/pack/pre overall people who have good sense of self control and posses skills to quickly do something and if it's fucked up, to have enough knowledge to try to fix it sometimes it's small things like reg settings, or edit bat file, or repack or something else and one main reason is ego's, if you don't have ego's you will work great with everyone and everything will go smooth greatness of a group only can be said after they been doing this for certain amount of time for me it's been about a 2 year mark, if a group can sustain for 2 years and release lots/quality titles then they are good and maybe if longer great What about The Faction, these 10 rules were created 2 1/2 years ago, the scene has changed, but these rules haven't. Why hasn't anyone bothered to fix it, or do you think it needs fixed? Or should it be abolished? Mostly reason because it haven't changed is because people don't care enough to do it, like set up time/etc or people hate each other so won't even talk about it we always need rules since they kind of makes a difference between skilled rip and not a skilled rip since any1 can make 100x3 rip and people who follow rule will take time reindex/etc and probably can do it within 50x3 and by having rules it makes lazy people to take more time to fix it, or get nuked Well just about every "rule" in the faction has been broken, and many want to raise the limit, others want to keep it. What is your stance on that main rule about the disk limit that everyone seems to treat as the golden rule of the rip scene. Well, last year I think 2 games which weren't ripped cause it couldn't have been put in 50 disks were Unreal Tournament and Wheel of Time. I think rules should be changed to probably 65x2.88 but with some rules, like if game can be dome with SAME features or better within 24 hrs (not change music for speech for example) by 30% smaller, then bigger rip should be nuked that would basically secure against wanna be groups of ripping out iso's which major groups take time to make sure quality as well as size are nominal every group breaks them but it's usually cause lack of skills or laziness although sometime its necessary :) Well Class has attained a bad rep. of release first, fix it later, and every time they try to fix that problem, that black cloud looms over them. What has CLS done to alleviate that problem in the future, or is it almost unavoidable? It is avoidable and I think lately we have proven that in the last 7-8 months of course last 3-4 weeks we were 'sloppy' but that's being worked on of course maybe people gave cls a name like you mention, but we especially lately try to make sure it works, so usually we have ripper + 2-4 people (depending of how tough rip is) to test the game usual problems only occurs in bad install info due to being rushed and frogs writing nfo's :] < hi azim :D > Many people seem to think Class has an ego problem, always stirring the bee hive by slandering and provoking other groups. Are they a group of egotistical people, or is it just all fun and games to rile people/groups? I take it as fun, I believe ragging to be an 'art' where like some people rag by saying peoples real names or shit which is COMPLETELY fucked, but funny insults I think rock people should keep doing it cause its all for fun and I think keeps people a bit relaxed sometimes You seem to think Myth will rise and fall, and CLS will stay as arguable #1. That your ego, group loyalty, or the truth? Well, I don't think myth will work out in the long run that's more a 'educated guess' since I know people in both parties (pdm and ogn) pretty well so imo I don't believe that they will work well together over a good period of time it's only my opinion and other people have a different one, and I can't talk for future but I would sure like CLS to stay #1 as long as it's around So why was Myth created then, were PDM & OGN dying, or they know the only way to win back the #1 spot was to work together? Most likely they thought it might work well since one party has suppliers and other crackers, but everyone wants to be #1 but to be #1 is to do it for a long amount of time and I doubt it will work with myth Does the rip gaming scene dictate the rest of the scene, as in, do they set the trend, and the other scenes follow behind it? I don't think they do because most trends are like rules for size etc, and sites set that trend for utils, games group much more closer than utils (good groups anyway) so its pretty hard to get into it, so rest of scene probably not waiting for them to set trend, like the ace archiver only games use it, and once in a while utils What about taking the rules of the top 10 sites (from CWS & other courier reports), combining all the rules, and use that as the new faction rules, since it seems you're saying sites & siteops make the rules. Well for utils siteops make them yes for games, faction does make them right now but usually game group make rules for sites since only 2-3 good games groups rules usually same so it's not really hard to follow them, even nukers use them on non-affiliated games sites I don't really give a fuck for site ratings I have my own ways of picking a site for certain groups as it depends of current group needs, sites staff, and what they can offer (not only leeches) Which do you drool over more, the latest Autocad or the latest Quake game? Autocad all the way ;) but for me it's not really autocad as it's LOW end cad am more drooling for high end FEA type utilities :] ANSYS/ETC Does the consequences of your actions ever cross your mind? Sure they do but I believe that most companies for high end utilities appreciate this since people who use this at college/high school student who will BUY next version as they get a good job games sure they do but it's all for fun and since I been doing this for while stopping now won't really help Did the bust in '99 help or hurt CLS? Well, if you mean about groups chances to being #1 probably helped but I don't want to see anyone busted and getting #1 via that not really fun thing however it did happen and we worked hard at this so I don't think it should be thought as if there wasn't a bust things might have been different Do you think anything has truly changed since then? Maybe people more careful but nothing else did Even after some major players were taken down, and people saw what they were put through, still not much has changed except being wiser what is mentioned in nfos. Is this severe short term memory in the scene because of the diluted scene since of the openness of the net, or do you think people don't take into consideration of their actions until it happens to them? Well people who got busted, were busted cause someone fucked up majority as we all know why and then he opened his big mouth and other were busted cause of that I guess people much more careful in ALL aspects right now I AM NOT sure it's if short term memory, since no one will forget this but more of people not doing same as people who got busted did Why would anyone remotely think of putting another person in serious jeopardy of being absolutely fucked? Well it's like you got busted and then you talk to get others busted mostly cause of lack of morals :) if you weren't careful and fucked up up why fuck others Well there is a fine line for revenge, then there is the point of revealing a person's real info which is plain 'ol stupidity, which we hold very sacred. totally agree hate is hate but it should be kept in scene and done in games rags /etc and not busting people What is your view of the scene currently, and how do you approach it. Like I stated before lot of lamers come to scene for various reasons most of them wrong imo scene can't be closed as before cause modems are more and more available these days scene will be alive for long long time but until some things change like *attitude* it still be same way people come for their selfish reasons and as soon as they're satisfied they leave In a cracking sense, the gaming & util scene are very different. If a game isn't cracked in under an hour, it's a challenge. But high end util cracks can take weeks, even months. Don't you think game companies could learn a thing or two from util companies? Well not necessarily since some utils take literally hours to setup dongle installation sometimes licensing and so forth games should be easy to install and if you see a game with dongle and flex lm licensing 1st it'll cost SHITLOADS to implement it and then produce dongles and then which parents going buy kids games where it would require them to stick sometimes in PC where is a chance of electric shock some game companies smart how examples multi cd checks/encrypted + random checks on levels/etc as well as many fake files, sound tracks, and stuff if programmers are smart they will do it but that usually comes from few companies, and which are fairly small but big giants, like ea/etc which gonna make profit either way Do a lot of people come after you to join their group, or work for their group? Heh you have no idea :) I don't want to say who etc cause it's not really for anyone to know but I get few offers a week :\= kind of annoying actually Well you're well known, do you ever think of yourself as a scene celebrity? Heh god no, I don't want to be one :) am just trying to have fun and release stuff for endusers I could care less what scene thinks of me as my status Many people don't know you grew up in serious hardship, do you want to tell people what you went through before you got caught up in the scene, and how has it help you? Well, everyone has some hardships basically but sometimes it does help you it matters when like making time for many things or talking with different people or other things which helps you of course at all times mostly things you've been through give you most inside knowledge and sometimes be able to predict things like answers or actions Do things you learn in the scene help you in real life, and vice versa? yes of course coordinating helps a lot since you can coordinate time much and when you talk with people about business you already have an insight and nothing can surprise you so you're always prepared Did you have anybody you use to look up to when you were a nobody? Do you credit anyone for your rise in the scene? Yes, mostly siege guys such as chinablue and few others who am sure want to remain in timeline mostly taught me how to rip/pack/coord my time and talk with various people Well any parting words/greets ? I want to greet all people in my past and current groups :L) since I think most of them rock and are dedicated people ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - Artworks and Layout by Ferrex of Superior Art Creations SAC - "Quote of the month" The Personal Gaming Report - March 2000
